This blog is intended for my wife, Alison, to log how much she runs. Currently I (Desi) enjoy running the distance between my house and the mailbox. I get more excited about my wife's running than she does. My wife completed the Top of the Mountain marathon in Logan, Utah(2007) with the personal best time of 3:33 her first marathon.

Alison's personal best

Memorial Day 5k  20:15

1 mile 6:13  with Michelle pulling me along.

Spanish Fork Half (2004)  1:42

Mesa Falls Marathon  3:25

Ali  has some awesome friends to run with that continue to keep her on the run and very motivated most of the time.

Short-Term Running Goals:

Ali's Goals:

Work on getting stronger in shorter distance races.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Ali : Try keep fit and running the rest of my life.  Help those around me appreciate the importance of staying fit and healthy.

Maybe get into the couple running thing with my wife, but I don't know!( motivation is lacking)

Personal:

We have 4 children (2 girls, and 2 boys). I am very supportive of my wife and her running.   I do all the bragging for her. Played football at BYU, but I never have had the long distance threshold.  I blame that on my size.   We met at a local dance club while attending college. We have been married for 11 wonderful years.

Ali:

Waited for Jamie to pick me up. Kids woke up at 0500. Put them back to bed then went to Gold's Gym and did the one hours spin class. Then did one hour of yoga. Jamie where R U?

Desi:

Thought about running out in the snow today. Started laughing. Then headed down to gold gyms when my wife returned home and did 40 minutes on the elliptical. Felt great.

Cute! You guys are most welcome. I love your blog nickname--there's always a need for more chocolate in the world.

From MichelleL on Thu, Dec 20, 2007 at 13:23:55

Welcome you two! I am glad you've signed up. How about milk chocolate? I guess those are the kiddies, eh? There are many couples on the blog but they post separate. It makes it easier to look back on your history to track mileage. Just a thought. Will you be out tomorrow Ali?

From Jamie on Thu, Dec 20, 2007 at 22:06:04

Once again, so sorry about Wednesday! I'll explain in depth later...go with your gut instinct as to why. Anyhow, welcome to the blog and see you tomorrow morning...the weather is likely to be awful:(

From Alison on Sun, Dec 23, 2007 at 18:35:35

we won't have to worry about tracking desi's mileage because he will never be out running . the elliptical is all the cardio he likes to do. Sorry I didn't comment sooner. Desi signed us up without asking so he made up some goals that he felt he wanted to see me accomplish. I still need to figure out what my goals are in life so I can look forward to speed work with Michelle and Jamie and the other Spanish Fork women.

today I did one hour of taebo and an hour of an interval class I instruct for a group of women in my neighborhood.  It's  really rewarding when you see some of these women working hard to shed 50 to 60 pounds.  I'd  like to get some of them out running but none of them want to brave the cold. I am not sure how many miles of running any of this equates into so I won't put any mileage down.  I like the cross training because it keeps  my options open and my love for running stronger than it would be if I didn't cross train.

I ran to Jamie's house and we did an eight mile loop.  Jamie had to be back to her house by 7:00 so we split  up at the fork in the road along canyon road in Spanish Fork.  There was no wind so it was a great morning to run.  So running from Jamie's to my house was great because the wind was not pushing me back.

I had to run on a treadmill at the gym today because Desi had to work at five in the morning.  I did a mile and a half warm up then ran intervals ranging from 3-4 minutes.  The intervals were between a 6.22 and 6.00 minute pace.  I had to get back to the babysitter so I was done after suffering for one hour on the treadmill.

I lifted weights after warming up two miles. I have this one circuit training set I love to do. I did it long and hard enough to make sure I was sore enough because I knew I wasn't going to be able to do anything because my husband had to work on Christmas.

I was supposed to run with Jamie today but she got the flu from her family.  I could hear the wind outside so I drove into Springville to do some hills.  It was cold outside.  It's amazing how well I can get through a run in the freezing cold when I  have my ipod.  They come in useful when you are all by yourself or on a treadmill.

I did taebo for an hour then ran on the treadmill 4.5 miles. I tried to push the last mile and a half at a 6.30 pace but my treadmill would not hold the speed . It kept jumping to certain speeds and kept saying across the screen that it could not find the tempo, so it was annoying.

I did a interval class for an hour. I wanted to get out and run some but I slept through getting up to run with Michelle in Salem and couldn't find time the rest of the day to get out.

I ran with the Sojourners group in Provo.  I got their early and ran with Amber for about six miles.  We met up with the group at seven and ran LA freeway.   I had a hard time keeping my footing in the snow  my feet kept slipping and I felt like I wasn't going anywhere.  I felt really tired and slow today.  It's frustrating when you want to keep a certain speed and your body is not letting you.  I'm at least glad I made it through.

Great job Ali. Getting six miles in before running L.A. would do most anyone in.

From josse on Sat, Dec 29, 2007 at 20:11:22

I know this run and hear you on the footing part you almost need snowshoes for this run. It is a great workout in the summer because you can really push the hills. Maybe I can talk you spanish forkians in coming down to Provo for a week day run on the LA freeway in the summer.

From Ali on Sat, Dec 29, 2007 at 21:24:47

I have done this run with Jamie before but today it was all I could do to keep going.

I do like this run better in the summer/fall.

I ran down to the gym today. I did a hour yoga class. I ran a different way home and ran into Jamie and Amber so I ran a little with them. Jamie and I split off a couple of miles from my house so my last 2 miles were lonesome. I felt good today, unlike Saturday's run so that made me feel better about my workout today.
